[Feature] Add option to use Embedded Meta ID3 Tags when Unmatching Albums in Premium Music Libraries

I have found that Plex Premium Music Libraries will completely ignore the embedded tags in my files if a match is found. If I unmatch, the tags do not revert to the embedded ones. I would like to have an option to Fix Match by using the embedded tags similar to what is available for Movie libraries.

Hi
same here, creating a music library of completely id3 tagged songs is a mess.
Can we get support here please?

In the Advance Settings page of the Edit Library wizard, be sure the ā€œUse embedded tagsā€ option is checked.

Thank you for that. This setting is enabled on my Plex server. However, this is not related to my request, really. I’m looking for an option in ā€œFix Incorrect Matchā€ that will use the embedded tags in files instead.

I have a lot of items that were added to my library all at once. Since there were so many, I couldn’t go in and lock the tags I wanted to keep and they were matched since my library is a Premium Music Library. Since they matched, there are some tags that were changed that are less clear than the ones embedded (e.g., ā€œElephant Talk [Original Mix]ā€ becomes ā€œElephant Talkā€).

My method to correct these currently is to remove each album from Plex, Update the Library, Empty Trash then add the item back to Plex. This gives me time to lock the tags and move on. I would like to have a way to fix these matches more quickly by using ā€œFix Incorrect Match,ā€ but have an option to use embedded meta data like the option that is available to movies.

i agree there should be an option to reanalyze an album or a track and extract the embedded metadata … plex premium ist very good but not perfect … e. g. i still have all my music organized in itunes as it allows searching the composers and comments tags … i also add all my albums to plex for listening … but sometimes i change some metadata with a tag editor (yate) … in plex premium music it’s impossible to get these changed tags displayed without doing the plex dance … even when i click the analyze button for that specific album in plex web … when i have a non-premium music library these changes get reflected by analyzing the album again … but not so in a premium music library …

In theory, if the setting I previously mentioned is set, and your Agent settings have ā€˜Local Media Assets’ at the top of the list (see screenshot below), Plex should work the way you describe, but it hasn’t worked for a very long time, if it ever did. The problem has become so institutionalized that the workaround has a name, the ā€œPlex Dance.ā€ The current method you describe is a variation of this. I would think this is very embarrassing for Plex, but they don’t seem to be bothered enough to fix it. Essentially, if Plex would fix this issue, the problem you describe would go away.

Strongly agree, I have a LOT of meticulously tagged live shows that Plex will not use the embedded tags for. It makes me crazy!

I wonder if the Use embedded tags option has been replaced with Prefer local metadata in the 2020 version of the Plex Server?

Yes.
This request is now obsolete, because there are no premium music libraries any more.
