There is currently no way to use local assets for collection posters like we can other artwork (poster.jpg etc…). I’d like to have the ability to set collection posters locally rather than having to select or specify it via the plex UI.
One possible solution could be to have a collection.jpg in the folder with the movies which are part of the collection. You could even mandate that a copy the same collection.jpg for each movie which is part of the collection has to exist.
There’s an existing suggestion which mainly discusses local extras for collections – however users have expanded this discussion to local media assets too (e.g. posters, background images…).
Your approach is different (e.g. adding the local assets to the content of a collection vs. having a dedicated folder structure for collections) – so we can certainly keep it… unless you want to merge it into the existing one.
Thanks @tom80H, I had seen that suggestion but its focus is different to what I’m asking for and wider in scope. The suggestion I made is a bit more specific so I’d like to leave it as is unless there is a major objection from someone else.
BTW… I just wish I could vote for my own suggestion but I have used my votes already and more important features. I really wish the vote restriction was increased to something like 10 from 5. 5 is FAR to low considering all the limitations use long term users of plex have.
