Still not supported and as it appears there’s not super much demand for it.

There’s been a related suggestion asking for an option to store specific local media assets for collections alongside your media files (1 vote as of today).

Feature Request -- ability to use local collection posters assets

There is currently no way to use local assets for collection posters like we can other artwork (poster.jpg etc…). I’d like to have the ability to set collection posters locally rather than having to select or specify it via the plex UI. One possible solution could be to have a collection.jpg in the folder with the movies which are part of the collection. You could even mandate that a copy the same collection.jpg for each movie which is part of the collection has to exist.

I believe somebody once explained how they tried adding local media assets (incl. themes) to a collection using URL commands / APIs. Thought I couldn’t find that thread to check if they succeeded.
Edit: found it and apparently it didn’t work for them, so they created a separate suggestion to support managing themes and artwork from within the UI or via an API/URL.

Managing Theme Music, Posters, and Art with the WebuI and API

Theme songs, I found, behave similarly to posters and art. For Shows the /themes endpoint shows you information on the show’s provided theme song. You can use the same methods to upload a poster to upload a new theme song. (DO NOT DO THIS!)Though I’ve only tested and been able to upload mp3 files from a local filepath.
