The folder view is fantastic for those of us that have used folders to organise media of all kinds. However, it’s practically useless for performing any ‘bulk’ sorts of actions like creating playlists or adding items to collections (or any other tasks you’d generally be able to do in other views).
For instance: I have my music organised by genre folders that are meaningful to me. “Holiday” for instance, is one that I’d like to just easily make a big playlist out of. I’d like to be able to select that folder and put all the tracks in it into a playlist (recursively). But to do this, I have to either drill down to every album in that folder, select all the tracks and add them to the playlist, OR manually find every album in another view and add each of them independently.
If I could actually filter by the genre tag that painstakingly added to all my Holiday music, that might have been a solution, but that’s not there either.
Similarly, I organise Movies by genre. I’d love to be able to mass edit my genres (yes, I know I can “select” and edit them, but going through 1000 movies and selecting them one by one, is not feasible), but just selecting the folder and folder view and applying the change. I’d happily use Collections instead for that purpose, but have exactly the same problem. One that would be fixed if I could select a folder, “add it to a collection” and have that apply to all the movies in it recursively.
