One idea recently popped into my mind after I watched a movie (Wreck-It-Ralph) was, “I’d like to listen to XXX from the movie!” I was thinking that it would be nice if Plex were able to associate the movie soundtrack that I have in my music library with the movie in the movie library (and vice versa) and allow me to play the music from the show on the movie title page or take me directly to the album in my Plex music library.
I have been thinking of how this could best be implemented, and I think matching based on the Album title would be the best way to identify the audio soundtrack. In the cases where there are similar album names, the user could choose one or none of the identified albums.
What I do is, create a collection ex. “Dirty Dancing” on the movie. On the soundtrack (album) you define the same collection. At least on PlexWeb, it shows collection album(s) on the movie pre-play screen.
If you want to associate albums or artists from your own music library with movies or tv shows, create a Collection.
Even though there is no Collections view mode in music libraries, you can still edit the artist or album and add the name of the collection on the ‘Tags’ tab.
(Make sure to use the precisely same name for the collection in both libraries.)
Having this as a natural occurance instead of having to create/add to collections would be preferred. Would be awesome to see the same information used to grab for tidal was used to look inside local library. Tidal was supposed to supplement your personal library anyway.
That’s exactly what happens already in the web app now. If someone has added the song(s) from the movie or episode to some database, they’ll be looked up at Tidal and shown.
(Using Tidal is the lower-hanging fruit, because items in the local library are often not as exhaustively matched.
Fuzzy matching would yield a lot of wrong associations.)
See I love this idea, I was thinking of it today myself. I gave it a try and it does work, a pain that it needs to be done manually but I guess that is the way of things.
However, something I’m not so keen on is that I do not have collections of single movies. All are 2 or above. If I add a soundtrack or TV series to a movie it then shows in the collections but as a single movie.
Is there a way to remove this but keep the collection tag so that if users go into a movie they still see TV or music?
With the removing of music in apps, i guess there is no hope to see one day a new integration between soundtrack and link to personal music / external provider as tidal?
