[Feature Request] Allow different movie poster based on if being displayed in Collections or in general movie library

It would be nice to have the option to have things like stylized movie posters when displaying in a Collections window but default back to the “official” movie poster when it is listed in the general Movie library.

Yes I would really love the ability to set different posters for movies in collections compared to the same movies in my main library. Lots of art used in box sets looks fantastic all together in the collection but looks confusing in the main library mixed with all my other movies. I want my library to show the most iconic/official posters while the collections could show alternative/minimalist/collectors versions. My workaround solution for this has been to create separate libraries for some collections, but this is too clunky to do extensively and creates duplicates which I hate. I hope this can be considered for a new feature!

This feature would be amazing to have - especially when it comes to organizing around the various award shows.

Example: Oscars 2000

Collection: Best Picture 2000
You would have all 10 nominees in the collection, but the winner for this category would have a “winner” customer poster that only appears when viewing this collection.

It would be great to support different poster artwork for a movie or TV show when it appears in a collection compared to how it appears in the main library. For example, in an “Academy Awards” collection, I might want to use a custom poster that includes an overlay with the year the title won an award. However, I’d prefer to keep the original or standard poster in the main library view.

This feature would allow for more meaningful and visually distinct organization within collections, without altering the primary library presentation. It would also give users more creative flexibility when curating themed collections.

I am using labels to create Smart Collections (like Academy Award Winners). For me, that is easier than to manually create and maintain these collections.

And I have a feature suggestion out these that also would do what you want. Maybe you want to support that?

I use kometa to manage my assets and collections and it works great - though a more complex setup. I see from your suggestion that would add some of that functionality directly into Plex without the need for another tool.

I would simply love to be able to set a movie poster for my library for example:

And then have a different one when shown in a collection:

Looks awesome.

This may be a niche situation, but I’ve been creating some fun collections and giving the movies special posters within the collection. However, when viewing the movie outside of the collection it would be cool to have to have the option to have a regular, or different poster.

So, the option to have one poster when viewing the movie regularly, and be able to select a different poster when viewing that same movie from within a collection.
