[Feature Request] Allow music to be played to any DLNA device

I’d really like to be able to play music to any receiver that’s listening, from my phone/tablet, not just an official Plex receiver. I want to walk around the house / lie on the couch and control audio. I’d like to not have to look at the TV.

I can’t fling to Plex for Samsung, so I’m relegated to opening up the app on the TV, and browsing through songs with a remote. The other option is to browse the server via my amp which is extremely slow.

Have a look at this, allows headless setup and control from iOS/Android phones and tablets, doesn’t need a connection to a TV just an amp.

Your link goes to a RasPlex thread. Am I missing something?

Not really, Rasplex (running on a Raspberry Pi, very cheap hardware) will do what you want.

Regards.

Thanks for the info, but that is very far from what I want!

Part of the plex pass benefit is to fling/cast, a massive benefit that I’ve been missing out on. I do not own, nor want to own any middleware to facilitate it when my current hardware is more than capable.

Locking down flinging to paying customers is fine, but it’s beyond me why it’s locked down between non-plex apps for direct streaming.

I completely agree, Scotia2.
All this other “dev” stuff is for dev people.
I want the promised features, not additional payments for more diy work.

I understand that Plex is always working on improvements, which is why I am on the monthly subscription. I am considering the lifetime subscription, only once I’m happy with the service’s simplicity as implied.

Otherwise, why not just stop paying and go to XBMC?

Where is it promised that you will be able to cast/fling from a phone to a TV (without using additional hardware)?

There are hardware / device limitations - for example for the samsung - you would have had the capability if it was possible and there were loads of forum subjects on this in the Plex Samsung Smart Hub forum

Is what is being asked for here is casting to devices through uPnP (DLNA) and AirPlay ?

Yes sa2000, pretty much.

Ned you’re misreading me.

Suggest you edit the title to mention those 2 protocols as minimum set

Done and done.

Casted - not played. As playing is already possible.
The to implies casting but best to be precise

Are you honestly having difficulty understanding what is written?

OK. It is fine.

Now that this is specifically about DLNA - there appears to be an existing request where other requests have been diverted to.
So please have a look and if you are happy with that please add your vote by liking the first post in tha topic - this topic and other similar requests can then be closed

Other requests that got directed to switch to the Plex as DLNA Control Point are

https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/79295/play-on-dlna-client-upnp-renderer

https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/73536/feature-request-send-video-through-dlna-to-tv-like-samsung-39-s-allshare

As I see it, this is the user interpretation of what “Plex as a DLNA controlpoint” is. It is a putty this doesn’t work yet, since it would open up a huge array of (older and newer) players like TV’s and internet radio’s. For myself it would remove the need to maintain a collection for my Squeezeboxes.
