Hello! Currently I have to instruct my users how to manually set quality when streaming suffers as a result of a poor Internet connection.
The best solution would for the quality to automatically go higher or lower when the speed capability changes. This would stop the endless buffering that can happen when the connection sluggish and would improve picture quality when the connection is better.
A simpler option would be to have the clients do a speed test from the server to the client before starting a stream and select the best quality setting based on the test results. Not 100% ideal since the quality would be set once per playback and would only change when playback is exited and restarted but might be easier to implement.
Currently my users may have to manually set the quality lower multiple times to get playback working at all and then they have to try setting it higher later to get a better quality picture. It isn’t simple, elegant, or fun and shines a bad light on Plex vs. something like Netflix which automatically adjusts picture quality.
