I love Plex a lot, even so much that I try to connect a lot of my family and friends. However most of them don’t know much of computers, network etc. and mostly when they have a problem it is related to there network speed. So my request is. “Is it possible to implement a automatic setting so that the Plex client will automatic determine the best remote video playback quality”. f.i. by first testing the network connection and server capabilities.
It would make acceptation by non IT nerds much better.
EXCELLENT idea, I am hoping for something similar myself.
I have 30Mbps upload speed, and would like Plex to adjust on the fly whereas 1 remote user can use all available bandwidth (say 95% of capacity) and then as additional remote users come on the server will scale down IF necessary. If a second or 3rd person comes on plex could scale bitrates accordingly depending on what is being watched. Right now I have remote streaming limit of 8Mbps to allow upto 3 people to stream at once and that is almost always unnecessary and creates lower quality versions of the stream that aren’t necessary usually.
Hopefully this aspect of plex will continue to improve. Well improve.
