It would really put Plex over the top to see Bluray / DVD Playback implemented.
It would really put Plex over the top to see Bluray / DVD Playback implemented.
Can you be more specific; are you looking to have Plex playback any DVD or Blu-ray disc inserted to optical drive in the Plex server?
(If yes) While that would be a nifty feature it might not be entirely practical. Think of it like this, if you wanted to watch a Blu-ray disc on your bedroom TV and your server is in the basement, you are forced to go all the way there just to change the disc.
A secondary limitation would be streaming, Plex is very much a steaming-centric platform. You couldn't allow out of LAN streaming, nobody wants to stream 25-50GB of Blu-ray content from their optical drive to their friends who have access.
Lastly, physical access; I wouldn't allow anyone to touch my Plex server. While this isn't a concern for everyone, it is for some. For some of us last thing we want is someone with little or no technical knowledge pushing buttons on the front of our server.
Again it could be a nice feature, but practical considerations need to be taken into account. If there are small kids in the house it may just be easier and less problematic to buy an inexpensive Blu-ray player.
Four easy steps:
- Create any folder ( for example name βBRβ), via this guide delete letter at optical drive and mount to folder βBRβ
- Download this scanner and put them in Plugins folder PMS.
- Create new library PMS only for optical drive with DiscImageScanners and data source folder βBRβ.
- Restart PMS.
Profit!
