I just got the Alexa skill working today for playing music from my Plex server directly on my Echo. So happy to finally have this feature working! I have a request that would really make this a killer feature for me. Much of my music collection is from South Indian artists whose names are pretty difficult to pronounce in a way that makes the Echo happy. It would be awesome if the Echo showed up in Plex as a device you can cast to (just for music). This way, I could find the music I want on a mobile app or Plex Web, and then click a button to get playback started on the Echo. From there, I could use voice control to pause, resume, etc.
Yes! The ability to cast music to any or all of my Alexa speakers is a major reason why I use Spotify.
Being able to cast from an (desktop) app allows for so much more control than having to talk Alexa. And the Amazon Music App (iOS & Android) now has the same feature. I would LOVE it if Plex (both Desktop and app) would also get this.
You can do this with Google devices, (Google CAST protocol?) but still not with Amazon⦠Perhaps someone in the Plex team should poke Amazon with this fact?..
Spotify is able to cast to Echo devices (as well as Google Cast devices), so it can be done. Plex just needs to support the Alexa Cast protocol, though I donāt know if itās publicly available, or if Amazon and Spotify worked together on it, since Spotify is the 1000 pound gorilla in the streaming media sphere.
Still no movement on this?
I use spotify a lot to stream to alexa from my android app, but it would be so great to have the same functionality with Plex.
Lots of apps stream to Alexa now - surely Plex coders can reopen this?
would love to see this feature. I use my phone to play Spotify on Echo devices all the time, was able to cast to google speakers, hoping I can eventually do the same to Echo
