[Feature request] Content language selection improvements

I would like to be able to configure (should be user-level settings) a “understood languages list”, and perhaps also define an order I prefer them if available.

This should apply to both audio selection and subtitle selection, but slightly differently for each.

For subtitles there could be two toggles:

  • Show subtitles by default, options:
    • Always full subtitles
    • Full if audio language not in “understood languages list”
    • Only forced subtitles
    • Never
  • Prefer content original language when understood, checkbox (this overrides the ordering of the “understood languages list”)

For audio, only one toggle is needed:

  • Prefer content original language when understood, checkbox (this overrides the ordering of the “understood languages list”)

The primary purpose of this is to aid with subtitle selection, but there are many use cases, e.g. for kids accounts, where I would set only Swedish in the list, and the client would automatically pick Swedish audio if available.

What do you guys think of implementing something like this?

There’s an existing suggestion discussing such an option where you can vote for that feature.

Holy, 9 years and only 5 votes. Geez, didn’t realise it would be such an unpopular feature…
