Not sure if this has been brought up before but it would be a great feature to have some kind of file retention policy for files that have been watched. This could be sliced up many ways, by library, Show, Season, etc…based on specific user or users that have watched them. Retain only the latest season, or only files that haven’t been watched etc…Someone has already written a great script on github that does most of this but it would be great to see something like this built in to the WebUI. As a daily Plex user with a house full of people I find myself spending a lot of time figuring out who’s watched what and what can I delete. Thanks Plex for all the great work.
I’m sorry you are spending time deleting the files you don’t feel you need anymore. I on the other hand, don’t delete ANYTHING that I’ve got. Either because someone else may want to watch it, or I might want to mark the season as unwatched and start it all over.
I down voted this as a request. Just so you know who was the first. HDD space is CHEAP relatively, compared to having my time eaten up by re-ripping or downloading the media I have in my library. Another 3TB drive is under $125 and can store a lot more media than a single series or movie.
Should something like this come about, with automatic deletes happening without user inputs, well… It wouldn’t be a pretty picture, the ruckus that would cause on these forums. Or the fallout from other users if Plex were to implement something like this and it screws up and deletes a BUNCH of other people’s media.
If you are still convinced you want something to automatically delete media, you can check out the scripts talked about here: http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/84822/plex-auto-delete-script/p1
Keep in mind, this is a 3rd party script, not written by the Plex Team. So if you decide you want to install this script and run it, and things you want to keep get deleted, well, you are on your own. You did it to yourself. Plex didn’t do it…
