[Feature Request] Hidden/Suppressed Libraries

Apologies if this has been requested before, but I couldn't find it anywhere so here goes!

I think it would be great if we had the option to hide or suppress libraries that we had set up in Plex. What I mean by this is that the library is set up in Plex, but it can not be seen by clients. Here are some examples of where I think this would be useful:

Trailer Pre-roll: With the new pre-roll feature it is a requirement that the pre-roll video is in your Plex library somewhere. I don't know about you, but there is just nowhere convenient for me to put it, so it would be great if I could put it in its own suppressed library, allowing it to be shared by PMS, but not able to be selected from within a client.

Seasonal media: I'd love to be able to set up a library specifically for Christmas music or movies, but not have it displayed by the client throughout the year. Instead of having to delete and rebuild the libraries each year, it would be awesome if I could just suppress/reactivate them when required. With that in mind, an option to automatically suppress and reactivate libraries according to the time of year would be even cooler!

I'm sure there are many other instances of where this feature would be useful, so throw your ideas forward! I also don't think it would be a complex feature to integrate, and wouldn't take much time away from other advancements that the group are bringing to Plex.

something along these lines is certainly needed.

Wouldn't this also be a natural consequence of having support for multiple users/parental controls?

Would REALLY love to be able to do this either using parental controls or whatever it takes1

Yes I agree I currently have Christmas movie section that I have to remove after the season… Would be nice to just hide.

+1 Would be awesome

+1 Want!

My use case:

On my media center I only care about TV and Movies. The Music and Playlists sections just muck everything up. When I use the mobile app, I almost exclusively use the Music library though it’s less of a bother to have TV and Movies there because it’s a tap/click interface rather than being operated by a simple up/down remote button.

What I have done for Christmas music and movies is create a separate library for them. You can use User Restrictions to hide those libraries for others when not in season.

But are they hidden for all accounts including admin clients? For me there should be a distinction between parental controls and suppressed libraries, but if using parental controls as a work-around works, then I’m all for it until a more elegant solution arrives.

I kind of look at the restrictions as a cross between straight parental controls and hiding/suppressing media. While the library is still available to me since I am an admin (somebody still needs to be able to see the media and grant/deny access to the content), it can be hidden from all of my other family users.

This whole space just need some work as it really depends on how you think about it vs how it could be implemented. I think having hidden libraries that can be toggled on and off would be great! This could however go hand in hand with parental controls as well where a library could be toggled hidden/visible and an option for PIN/no PIN to grant access to that library. A PIN/no PIN option should also be available on a per movie bases as well.

Currently when my 5 year old gets out of hand and watching too many movies that effect his behavior I have to delete it from the library until he fixes his behavior and shows that he can handle watching such a movie. For example, super hero or transformer movies, etc. Also movies with a PIN on the movie itself would give remind him that he cannot access it and hopefully promote better behavior.

I also toy with the idea of having multiple PINs defined by admin to allow different levels of viewing. For instance one PIN gives age 13 level content and another gives age 13 level content and rated R level content. This again would be on a per folder and per file level. I plan to request this very thing if I don’t find another post similar to this but figured I’d mention it here too.

Toggling hidden/visible folders for seasonal movies is a great idea and would save some pain with managing seasonal movies and/or works in progress.

Assuming you have created an account that is for your 5 year old and only share content based on certain MPAA ratings, for the films you don’t want the child to have access to for a time just change the MPAA rating of the film to a rating you don’t share with their account. This way you don’t have to delete the film from your library.

Was looking for this functionality so I could hide seasonal libraries vs remove them.
Would appreciate this feature and use it if added.

+1 here as well… having floating files or a junk drawer for prerolls isn’t very clean
