Feature Request: Host My Own Relay Server

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hi,

I would like to host my own personal relay server.

How would I be able to achieve this? Or is this a feature request?

Awaiting your response,

Joannes Wyckmans

IF you have remote access enabled you shouldnt need a relay server.

Unless you use a 4G connection that is faster then your home connection, and cannot port forward over LTE

The question and challenge is “Why isn’t Remote Access working?”

Is this a firewall issue, router issue, ISP issue ?

What is driving the request?

At a very high level, this could be accomplished by:

  • Standing up a reverse proxy on a remotely-hosted server.
  • On your local Plex Media Server host, establishing a point-to-point VPN between it and the remote server.
  • Configuring the reverse proxy on the remote server to send Plex traffic to your local Plex Media Server via the previously-established VPN tunnel.

There would be other details which would need to be worked out at each step (where to host this, which reverse proxy to use, configuring the reverse proxy, VPN connection choice and configuration, setting up a custom domain with custom certificate for secure connections, etc…).

That makes Sense to me, but I do not have the knowledge to set it up. If there would be a tutorial specific to Plex, I would be able to set it up using terminal Linux at a vps. I do have access to some vps. Does anyone have some more specifics to point me in the right direction?

This is, because of CGNAT

@adoteq

That’s what was forefront on my mind.

@pshanew gave you the solution I would have.
