Idea: "Import a shared folder". I have a few plex friends and for the most part I don't look at too much of their stuff, but my friends have some kid stuff I would like to add to my library. As it stands now, if I want my kids to watch a show that he already has they have to switch servers, go find it, play it ,etc. This is problematic because I don't allow them to see these folders in their xbox profile. Also, it's cumbersome for me to sign into mine, browse to it, play it, then when they are done if we want to watch something else switch back etc. What I would like is a way for me to go into one of my libraries they DO have access to, and link to a movie or tv show that one of my friends has shared. This would then show up in that library and provide a more seamless experience. As far as the interface goes I would suggest adding a button on the library to simply "import shared movie/show". If my child accounts have access to that library, they would then be able to see that show.
Yeah that's not going to happen, in effect it would make plex a P2P program for sharing media that may or may not be legally acquired.

Not if done through links as opposed to copying files.
Are you talking about adding a shared folder to your current library so it appears that the shared stuff is part of your server when in reality they are still with the original server.
Something like this has been asked before. The argument against this is that the original owner is sharing with you and may not be interested in sharing with all the people you share with. This could be to avoid excess load on their system or just because they don't want to. The best solution is for your friend to share with you kids account and set restrictions as appropriate.

In your first statement yes, that is exactly what I want.
In regards to your second statement, my kids are smart enough to open plex and see the shows/movies i have for them in one spot. They are not smart enough to realize they need to switch servers to see other stuff that people have shared with me (and to be honest I really don't want to waste the disk space if I don't have to). I can understand not wanting a "friend of a friend" to see those shared items. So what's stopping plex from not re-sharing an item that's linked to another series on another server?

That would be the "friend of a friend" sharing. There is nothing to stop Plex from implementing this. They just made the design decision to not do it.
No i mean what's preventing them from excluding these sort of items from being shared that way? Just because the item is in the library doesn't mean that if I share this library that happens to have this "shadow series" in it, that it has to share that specific show out.
I guess I'm not understanding what you are saying. Can you give an exact example?
