I cannot figure out Plex’s approach to music. They put a lot of work into things like Plexamp – which does have some really great features. But they stubbornly refuse to support some really foundational features like the Composer tag.

I figure we are at an impasse due to a philosophical difference, or some kind of technical issue which makes such upgrades more costly than expected. I’ll keep beating the drum too but if it hasn’t happened by now, I am not optimistic that it ever will.

Smart playlists are still not fully functional and do not support all of the options iTunes does. iTunes has been reading and writing ratings to id3 tags for more than twenty years.

Plex makes a poor music library for want of just a few enhancements that people have been requesting for a decade.

I’m in constant fear of losing data like ratings because of minor changes made to the files/directories in my library. This feature would really help put my mind at ease.
