I am not sure how feasible this is, with how the software is built out and with what the developers wish to do but it would nice to allow an update method that allows updating Plex via web interface instead of downloading the new install file and doing so through SSH.
You should probably mention what you mean with “software” and on which platform.
Because on Windows Server, this is already possible when updating the Plex Server software.
Oops, I was referring to Linux based operating systems then.
Depending on your particular Linux distribution, you may be able to use the proper “Linux-way” of updating software: a repository.
But @ChuckPA might be the better person to ask this kind of question.
If you enable the Plex.repo (redhat) and the sources file (debian), you only need enable it.
PMS will update as the Public repo updates with your scheduled system updates
