In the iOS app on an iPad, I’d like the ability to “lock” Plex, ideally on a per-user basis, to avoid accidental deletion or editing of content or settings.
Situation: person with autism uses Plex to watch videos synced from my Synology server. However, due to disability/motor coordination issues this person will accidentally tap on areas of the app they shouldn’t, resulting in deleted content, unintended settings changes, etc.
I’d love a way to somehow lock (with PIN or whatever) the app so that nothing can be changed/unsynced/etc.
I realize this is probably quite the edge case but thought I’d check since I really like Plex and this person does get a lot of use out of it.
Only the admin user can change content. You should create a managed user account for this person. Then they can’t change too many things, at least nothing detrimental. Add a PIN to your account so they can’t get back to your account. As a managed user, they can’t log out of the app either.
I’ll double-check - thought I already had tried that. The big issue was 20 GB of synced movies that somehow became unsynced - we don’t know how. This individual isn’t always in wi-fi so having synced local vids is a necessity.
Correct me if i am wrong but you are talking about them deleting synced content mistakenly off device, not content from the original library on your Synology right?.
I think maybe there is/was a feature request for a “child proof” view where many options are hidden in feature suggestion area, but i can’t find it right now. Be happy to move this topic there so folks can vote.
Sync content is managed by the user that first uses that feature. If you generate the sync as the admin, the managed user can still access it but they cannot add/remove them. You have to switch to the admin account to update then the manages user will see the update. If the managed user starts the sync, then they can control it.
