+1 with HDR becoming mainstream, this is a must.
+1 on madvr, technically it shouldn’t be too hard to add it in either.
+1 We need this. I hate having to avoid HDR because Plex doesn’t support it.
Do we know if this is something the Devs are even considering? More HDR content is becoming available and we cant play it in the nest available qualify on a Win 10 gaming PC connected to an HDR TV. Providing an option to allow us to use third party renderer like MadVR seems like the straightest line to that goal.
Or what is Plex’s plan to support HDR in the near future?

Any updates on this or anything similiar? I’d be willing to buy a GTX 1660 for better quality when transcoding but it feels such a waste when most of the GPU is not working. Ability to use the extra resources to upscale SD content with better quality would be really nice to have. This topic has been in discussion for years now and no action.

Seriously, would love to see this feature. As I am playing around the MadVR’s scaling option, it’s so much better than Plex! That plus HDR support, it’s making want to switch from Plex entirely.
Would be nice for htpcs. Right now I use a Plex app on all devices except my main tv. I still just use file explorer and pick a movie. Not elegant but worth the quality.

Some of us are pretty much the only users of our servers so having MadVR renderer as an option before transcoding would be very nice. I suppose this could be limited to certain users as well so normal streaming/transcoding to kids and MadVR for daddy. Especially when 99% of my GPU sits unused as it can do much more than just NVENC.

This feature request is obsolete, because Plex Media Player is deprecated and won’t receive any updates or bugfixes.
The currently supported dedicated player apps
“Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux” and “Plex HTPC” are using the open source player mpv as their “engines”. This can do pretty much anything that MadVR can do, but on several OS platforms instead of just Windows.
It provides a similar level of customizability of its visual quality and postprocessing. HTPC Tips and Tricks
@OttoKerner As far as I know the new “Plex HTPC” can still not play 3D-MVC files correctly, but the MadVR Renderer can. Am I right with this one?
I don’t believe I’ve seen this request yet. I would love to use madvr+mpchc on my plex content but there isn’t an external player option. An option to use an external player would make me stop having to use kodi or emby on my htpc.
There’s a dated suggestion discussing the option to add support for external players (focusing on madvr).
