[Feature Request] MadVR for Plex Media Player Windows

Plex could really catch up to Emby if it could playback videos using MadVR like Emby does.

Yes, could be really interesting.

Have they been able to add madvr for plex? That would be the only hold back to my using Plex for absolutely everytthing.

I’ve been looking at possibly switching to Plex and wondering about this myself. Kodi DSPlayer allows use of madVR. Could PleXBMC be the bridge for this?

Emby supports WASAPI bitstreaming and MadVR.

This is the perfect media player video/audio setup for people with high end receivers. I really hope Plex adds this support!

I’m disappointed that I paid for a lifetime Plex Pass. The developers are not interested in quality. I paid a lot of money for my home theater and I want something powerful to be at the core. I’m forced to use a few different apps to make everything work.

I like to watch 3D MVC Blurays, but I can’t with Plex.
I like to watch my 3D movies in 2D from time to time, but I can’t with Plex.
I like to watch HDR Blurays, but I can’t with Plex.
I like to watch movies in the highest quality (MadVR + WASAPI), but I can’t with Plex.
I like to watch VERY high bitrate movies without stutter or any lag, but I can’t with Plex. I can with XBMC.
I like to watch movies on my iPad when I’m away and that’s the only good Plex has done me.

yeah I am tired of waiting for Plex to play catch up. I am already setting up a Emby server in one of my VMs to test.

I can’t believe there is still no MadVR, and all the TV client are literally all broken except for the 3rd party apps

Bump. MadVR is so needed for this.

Anything new here? Giving up plex for HDR content, at least for now

Plex devs have been clear that they don’t plan on supporting HDR or 3D MVC formats. I’m not sure if they meant right now or forever, but it’s looking bleak.

At least they should authorize to use an external player, this way we could find a workaround to have HDR.

+1

I still need to use MPC-HC every now and then.

+1 for MadVR with Plex

+1 MadVR would solve 3D and HDR issues!

Can’t believe this is still a thing. I fired up PMP on my PC just to see if it’s usable. 720p->4K? Nearest neighbor scaling. WTF?

Having this video renderer integrated into Plex as an option for MUCH higher quality video playback would be a huge boon to running PMP on the PC. If any of you want this be sure to hit that vote button at the top of the first post! I’m the first one to vote hahaha

Here’s a link to MadVR’s website for those who want to know what it is: http://madvr.com/

THIS WOULD BE AMAZING! After upgrading my home theater to 4k I realized the 4k hdr picture on htpc was not very. Someone suggested madvr via kodi/dsplayer and the plex addon for kodi. The picture quality is night and day, it looks so so so nice using madvr. But the plex addon has issues with the dsplayer for example it does not like to resume where you left off in the video. I would pay for the ability to add madvr support into the plex media player. Emby theatre supports it, would be awesome if plex did also.

Thanks

As MadVR doesn’t seem to work with MPV, an external player option just like Kodi would be great to be able to use MPC HC + MadVR. Look at the current progress on MadVR’s HDR Tonemapping, it makes looking HDR Movies with your HTPC really great!

This would be amazing. Or at the very least, external playback support so that we can just get it working ourselves. My projector is only 720p and it would be great to be able to use Plex + madVR for GPU accelerated de-blocking + scaling for older 480p content, or to downscale and decode 4K HDR (super-sampled).

I have been able to use madvr with plex for some time using the plex client within kodi dsplayer… Would be nice to get it to work with the native windows player but this definitely works for now.
