[Feature Request] Media Info on Dolby Vision Videos

still no luck as far as I can tell :frowning: A badly needed feature!!

Sorting DV content can be achieved by creating a new library! However, this request is about displaying DV content client-side (in the plex player). Just in the way @KCX showed above in his example.
I am still wondering why this feature is implemented server-side but not client-side

Hey @chrisallen - now that this has been implemented server-side (thank you!), it’s visible in Plex Web only. Do you have an update for us for when this will make it into the other clients? It’s been a long time now the feature has been available, it seems odd not to pull through the finish line with this. Just flagging this in case it has been forgotten.

Thanks

You are correct that we have it in Plex Web. I will follow up with our product team on the timing for it being implemented in more clients (Apple, Android, Roku etc). It more than likely is planned for after some other UI work.

This is truly fantastic news. Thank you for the update and not forgetting about this!!!

Thank you

great :muscle::sunglasses:

A lot of things can be achieved by creating a new library. I do not want a new library. I can already sort/smart list all HDR content why not DoVi content?

Indeed, it can be achieved by this approach, however, i certainly do not want a library for SD, HD, HDR10 and another for DV content. This seems to be a strong usability problem, however, the present request points at avoiding to produce a mass of senseless sub-libraries.
From a UX point of view (my current job is about human factors), the user just wants to browse through her or his library and select and play a movie. What would happen if a certain movie can only be found in library “SD” but not in the current one? Of course, you may use the search function, but whenever you just have no clue what to watch, this approach fails… => usability problem!

Accordingly, creating new libraries may help to get a globally structured media collection, what is, in fact, helpful, but also leads to major problems regarding within library search.

However, as I said, this request is about getting an icon or something that signals that your selected movie is DV (instead HDR, what is currently displayed)

I didn’t catch your sarcasm the first go around. I agree. I do not want 50 libraries either. I se we have the display now, limited to certain clients for the time being, but it the data is there why not give us a way to use it to sort?

Guys, we were lucky that a Plex employee just responded to this thread and is trying to get some more feedback from the product team. Let’s not derail this thread with off-topic discussions (like the ability to sort/filter the library for DoVi content - that’s not what this thread is about. Open a new one).

Nothing yet to share. I am still working to get a firmer update on this for you guys. I personally would love to see this so I have a vested interest in it!

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned in this thread, but if I have multiple versions of some episode or movie, one DV and one HDR, then the Android app (Nvidia Shield TV) seems to prefer the file with HDR even if bitrate is higher on the one with DV. Having to use “play version” to get the DV version.

If possible I’d love to have this with HDR10+ as well. Something like “4K DoVi/HDR10+” when DV and HDR10+ are present, or “4K HDR10+” when DV is absent.

@chrisallen any status on this at all? Needs to encompass not just DV but accurate labeling of Atmos, DTS X, etc…knock it out with 1 push.

There’s a dedicated suggestion for that

Could we add Dolby vision as a sort feature just like HDR? I have a folder of just remux rips and some are dolby vision and some are HDR 10. I would like to organize/sort by this. Thank you.

I was going to create a post about that just now. That would be really appreciated.
