I have been trying to get my audiobooks into Plex for awhile, but things are not quite there yet. I recently tried putting some books in the mka container since Plex does not support chapters in m4b files. I thought that mka was similar enough to mkv that chapters would be supported. Well, they aren’t. And on top of that, apparently Plex does not read mka metadata, either.
Is there any chance Plex will increase support of these files? Chapters for some audio container (m4b or mka, I just thought mka would be easier because Plex already supports chapters in mkv) is really important, because when an audiobook is 10+ hours, skipping around becomes very tedious.
There is an existing request for audiobook support (several, actually). Rather than splitting votes by creating multiple threads, please add your vote by clicking ‘Like’ on the original post in that thread.
I don’t know if anybody is still following this, but I’m also wondering if Plex reads any kind of MKA metadata – that’s not an audiobook specific request, because some people make one MKA per album (tends to have better gapless-playback support than single-file solutions). Any ideas?
Also: @beckfield your link is dead. Casualty of the recent Discourse migration?
Thanks for the quick response @OttoKerner! Is there a section in the docs that has something like a table or list of which metadata fields are used for which file formats? I tried to look it up for myself before asking here… I just want to make a single audio file, with chapter markers, where Plex can understand the basic album info (album / artist / year / etc).
No audio formats in Plex do support chapters.
Pley does only read a few metadata from matroska video files, (language info, track format and chapters) but none from .mka.
You are advised best to follow the now repaired link above and vote for the audio book feature.
