Support for reading chapters in m4b files

It would be really nice if PlexAmp supported reading and track selection of chapter files in m4b files—it seems like full-blown audi book support isn’t in the cards, but PlexAmp is already a great player and simply adding support for chapter markers would be a simple but incredibly helpful fix.

VLC, Openaudible and Kid3 all support chapters so they are easy to add to or create m4b files with chapters and having a single file with chapters included is easier to manage than multiple files for each audiobook
I have been debugging chapter support in kid3 (works well in the latest build and fixed an issue in the latest beta)
and VLC 4(dev) chapter support works, the way it is shown could be better but baby steps

oh and Openaudible apparently also supports m4b chapters

I’d love to see M4B support in Plex. IOS users have Prologue. Android has some apps, but I haven’t found one that integrates as well as Prologue.

Plex can already play M4B files it just doesn’t read the chapter data from the M4B files, VLC 4, Openaudible and Kid3 can all read and work with M4B chapter data, OpenAudible and VLC implemented support for chapters in about 1 week, I know as I was testing chapter support for both betas

Anyone from Plex Support could give us an idea where on the road map this feature could be? Weeks, Months, Years? It was requested in Sept 2021.

It boggles my mind that Plex doesn’t support basic audio book features. This is a huge hole in PleX’s features that really has to be addressed. When will it finally be done? When can one finally comfortably play audiobooks and reliably visualising book progress acccording to m4b chapters?
Supporting audiobooks with multiple mp3’s would also be nice, but supporting m4b metadata seems like a pretty simple yet impactful feature addition.

It’s been requested since 2018…

I have a feeling that the lack of chapter support is in any audio files, but now they’ve split things apart it’s likely to be an even lower priority, despite how many people like to use it for older audiobooks from tape etc (getting the chapter markers into the files is a totally different story lol)

It can do multiple files well enough that it works, but as with all things now - Plex is chasing money and not customer satisfaction… 7+ years and counting…
