so, i realize this… kinda butts up
against much of the long-form
audio/audiobook requests that
already exist, but while that’s
slightly taken care of with “remember
playback position” in designated
audio libraries, my request is a
little different:
for example, i use this utility
http://www.splasm.com/audiobookbuilder/
to make really quite killer audiobooks
(which leverage ios features, quite well).
i get
• one single file that
• contains chapters (name+position)
• contains chapter art
(i actually make slightly different,
gorgeous artwork for each chapter,
so i can tell @ a glance what heading/
chapter i’m listening under)
but, having loaded a few of these into
plex, i was saddened to learn plex
does not yet support this (admittedly,
quasi-niche) feature.
please make my dream come true?
Agreed. The support for audiobooks is lacking at best. Can we please get some real support for M4B (aac) formatted audiobooks?
Can we also get chapter support for regular m4a or even mp3 files?
I just dropped quite a bunch of my audio files (containing chapters) into Plex and the chapters don’t show anywhere.
Is there any support for chapters (planned)?
m4a/m4b are both the same mp4 container format. Just not exposed on the music UI (you could rename your m4a to mp4 and put it in a movie library, but that may create more issues). So plex already has access to the chapters, its just not exposed on the UI.
FYI - In PMP I was able to skip chapters in my audiobook library using the next chapter keyboard shortcut. (alt-left/right when in windowed mode)
mp3 chapters are less supported because the original container wasn’t built for that. It is supported in the container now with ID3 tags, but many of the OS’s default players don’t. Since its my guess that plex leverages the default players - support for mp3 chapters is less likely.
