I'd like the option to create a playlist by track instead of just Artist or Album.
For instance, I have a swing playlist I made from the Album list and it has most everything but I have songs from the Payback soundtrack that are swing and they don't show up under the swing genre. The reason the Payback soundtrack is not showing the genre as all swing is because it has a variety of song genres that are not swing.
It would be great if I could select all tracks with the genre I want and make that a playlist.
In your library, make sure you are displaying the library by Track.
On the left sidebar, uncheck the 'Select' checkbox (this graphic seems unintuitive to me, but that's another topic).
Now you can select the individual tracks by clicking on the track name (not the Artist name. That takes you to the Artist page).
There is an open bug where the Select checkbox doesn't appear when you switch to the 'by Track' mode. If that happens to you, you can still select tracks by holding the Ctrl key (or the Mac equivalent) when clicking on the tracks. Once you do that, the checkbox magically appears.
Once you've selected your tracks, use the 'Add to Playlist' button on the sidebar.
I know how to select multiple tracks to put them in a playlist but my problem is I would like to be able select tracks based on genre not just selecting individual tracks. So as in the case I listed I know that I have a couple songs from the soundtrack they are a genre I want but I don’t see them when I’m looking at the albums.

So your request is actually then for a genre filter in track view?
