Plex Channel/Plex TV Station
I got to thinking today how interesting it would be to tune into a channel that showed only the shows that I like. I frequently have things running on TV in the background as noise, or sometimes I just don’t like to spend time making decisions and just want to watch what’s on.
What If?
What if Plex were able to serve up a “pseudo channel” that took shows from your library and inserted them into rudamentary programming timeblocks? For example, every day, if you turned this “channel” on at 3pm, you’d be treated to whatever show was slated to play in that timeslot, potentially “in progress” so it feels a little more real. (for example, episodes of Rosanne play at 3pm daily) A basic guide could be assembled showing what plays at what times. Plex picks.
When that show finishes, it serves up the next one in the time block. It could possibly do back to back episodes for some hour blocks. It would serve up the next numerical episode the next day/air time. A few movie trailers from your library could be used as filler between episodes.
Now, this “channel” wouldn’t always be running. When it gets activated, it would just pick up what it’s supposed to be playing at that time.
Maybe over time it gets smart and slowly starts weeding out shows that aren’t being watched in favor of others? Maybe it shows cartoons in the mornings, sitcoms in the evenings, and Twilight Zone type shows late at night.
I realize this may be semi accomplished by random play, but what fun would that be? Maybe I want to come home from work and catch a few different, routine shows in a row every day while I eat dinner…
Maybe it shows up in your guide of regular channels, and you don’t even realize you’re watching it?
