In addition to the on-demand approach to viewing content from my library, I wish Plex could allow programing your own “live” channels to flip through. Ideally, having an ability to manually program a daily or weekly routine (a lot like a TV Guide view) and also an automatic channel creation based on genres or collections. This would allow one to “tune in” and catch a show or movie that was already in progress like live, appointment based television instead of choosing to watch a program ala carte from the library. Unlike a playlist or collection, this channel creation would play content based on local time. The channels do not play constantly but rather run a play script based on time/programming when they each are called up.
Something very similar to the execution of Pluto TV or customer user scripted add-ons like “Fake TV” but supported innately within the Plex library which could allow playback on other Plex Player apps like Apple TV, Mobile, Smart TV etc.
- Once you have slotted a TV show or a movie into a time slot, the server could check against episode numbers and progress through shows in order over the course of the next few days.
- Support for multiple custom “channels” to flip through with access to all users’ libraries (movies, tv, etc)
- Ability to create small, semi-transparent corner logos or channel based pre-rolls for “station identification” to make channels be visually distinct.
- Option to play episodes from “On this date” based on their original air dates.
- The complete of binge watching: daily/weekly advancement of TV episodes or movies according to weekly schedules.
