Feature Request: Plex to Interrogate the Free To Air Signal for Late TV Guide Changes to Auto-Move Recording Start/End Times

Hello,

I have a Plex lifetime subscription combined with a SiliconDust HD HomeRun Connect Quattro.

The Plex Media Server is running on Windows 7.

I moved to Plex this year after 13 years of using Windows Media Center PVR with internal Hauppauge TV Tuner.

I am disappointed that my new 2018 Plex setup does not do something that my old 2005 Windows Media Center setup did, namely: when the content providers (eg. SBS, Channel 9, etc…) change the start / end times of programs after they’ve been published online (eg. due to late scheduling changes) the Plex setup does NOT adjust the recording start / end time.

I believe (but am not sure) that the root cause is the Plex setup relies solely on the version of the TV guide published online, whereas Windows Media Center setup relied on BOTH the online version AND the guide data broadcast in the Free to Air signal (ie. via the Antenna). Actually, it may be that Windows Media Center relied entirely on the guide data in the Free to Air signal, like I said I’m not sure.

The end result is that the Plex setup sometimes records the overrun of the previous program and then ends the recording of the desired program early! This actually never happened in my old Windows Media Center setup.

I guess that this may also require SiliconDust to interrogate the Free to Air signal, and then pass that information onto Plex? If that’s the case, then I’m happy to provide them with this feedback, but please can someone at Plex also comment on this?

Kind regards,

Mitch

P.S. Keep up the good work… in so many ways Plex is so much better than my old Windows Media Center setup!

I really like Plex and use it extensibly for recording TV programmes. I’m a bit surprised though that Plex doesn’t adjust recording schedules in line with EPG changes.
