Feature Request: Podcast Media Type/Controls

+1 for podcast support.

+1 for this support - would work well for audio books too

+1 for podcast support

Yes for podcast support!

As it relates to Audiobook / Podcast support, I’d like to see functionality added to adjust playback speed. Most of my podcasts I listen to at 1.5x since they talk slow and have lots of pauses.

+1 for podcast support

I’d love this feature too

+1 For podcast and audio book support

Honestly I’m surprised this isn’t included already. Required features:

  • Grouping and sequencing tracks from the same podcast / book (like the TV series feature already does)
  • Remembering last listen position for the whole podcast / book (not just individual tracks)
  • Listended / non-listened flag on all podcast / book tracks
  • (if possible) setting an RSS url to auto-sync a series and download new episodes
  • (if possible) playback speed control

+1 for podcast options

+1 yes podcast support is much needed, especially with the new Plexamp app now.

Oh, man, I’d love me some podcast support! Gimme an RSS into Plex option!

I’m going to add my +1 support here too. Specifically for a PODCAST media type. I’ve pretty much ditched all traditional podcast players, because they’re all horrible. Even though Plex doesn’t have a podcast media type, I’ve been able to make it work better than most purpose built Podcast players.

Plex is now my ONLY podcast player no matter where I’m at. Home, Car, Plane or Train, I use Plex for podcasts. Many folks have already commented on the features desired, but I’ll mention again a few of those:

<< back AND forward >> Controls on all clients - I see these on my Roku and FireTV clients but iOS, Plex for Vizio, Webplayer and just about every other client I use does not have controls to skip ahead or back 30 seconds

Store listen position and actually allow resume on all the clients - Currently I have this enabled for my “podcasts” library but it really only works on the Roku client, my least favorite client. The client I use most, Plex for Vizio, does not allow resume of audio files. Other clients like iOS are spotty at best for resuming audio files. Video resuming is very reliable. Not sure why this is so hard to make work.

1.5.x, 2x Speed Controls - While I personally don’t care about this one, seems a lot of folks do.

Listened/Unlistened Status - Plex does a great job of keeping track of and allowing users to change the “watched” status of VIDEO files. Why can’t we get this for audio files? A podcast media type MUST have controls to toggle the listened status.

STOP trying to “match” my podcasts to music artists, etc. I’ve done everything I can to turn off features like Last.fm, Gracenote, etc. Somehow, plex is still trying to match my podcast files to some kind of music artist. I have to specifically “unmatch” to get rid of this.

Many of the media fields used for audio files don’t make sense for podcasts, like artist, album, track number, etc. Even the audio genre standard fields don’t work for podcasts. A true podcast media type would better represent podcast audio in the database.

So I’m adding my plea to the developers. PLEASE make a podcast media type.
