I have a folder with Podcasts, and they download automatically using BashPodder to a folder that Plex can see; I have it set as “Music”, but as a result, I don’t get the “watched” thing, nor ability to pull information from locally stored XML files or whatever.
The thing with a podcast is that it’s like a TV Show, but with just audio. What I would like is TV Show-like functionality (so the whole “New show has arrived” thing, as well as “watched” state), but only for audio files.
Currently, the ID3 tags are kindof a mess from my podcast sources, but if the library was able to understand that everything in “BiggestProblem” is from that “show”, that would rule (much like TV Shows do).
In the end, all I really need is for the “TV Shows” type of library to recognize MP3s; I can use locally stored information in the ID3 tags to get media information. Can this functionality be added somewhere? Like edit some setting where “TV Shows” recognizes MP3s?

The only thing I need from Plex that it can’t yet do. RESUME audio. That’s it. Then I can create a music library and so long as Plex lets me resume across devices, I’ve now got a functioning Podcasts / Audiobooks library.

I know its been a year since the was posted But I would LOOOOVVVVEEE this feature… I have ALOT of devices and it would be nice to have audio podcast’s resume on all devices.
I would also love to have proper podcast support. I would also like to add the idea of video podcasts, being able to listen to the audio portion of the podcast in the background while driving or doing something else that requires your visual attention, but when the app is in the foreground, have the video resume playing, I think that -along with local sync- would make the best podcast option for those of us who use a variety of devices and switch between them several times a day.
