Hi! Happy Pass holder that has been using Plex for about three years now. Recently I discovered the Home Users functionality which is amazing, because it lets my parents access my material without interfering with my own watched movies/shows/etc.
1. Remember Home User
One quibble I have is that every single time I switch away from the app and return–no matter how briefly it might be–I have to tell Plex that it’s me. This keeps me from enabling the PIN on my account so that I can continue to access my own libraries versus the ones I want to share with my parents. (Not that I have anything to hide from my parents. Yet. Right now it’s so that I keep admin privileges.)
I think Plex Home Users could benefit from the Netflix-style user memorization: on mobile devices, remember the user more permanently, while on devices more likely to be shared (tablets, TV/DVR devices, consoles, etc.), maybe ask the users once a day/week/month/session.
2. Allow home users to change PINs
Another feature I think would be beneficial is to allow users to change their own PINs, just in case. Admins should probably have the ability as well but I believe letting users set them as desired would be a nice-to-have security feature (just in case certain home users are really, really defensive about letting people mess around with their queue). I checked with both PIN-locked and -unlocked accounts to see if they could manage their own PINs but they were greyed out.
3. Let admins change home user pictures
I’ve noticed that users can change their own pictures in the web interface if they’re signed in; could admins also have that ability? The only things I’ve been able to change as admins are PIN codes and user names (and, obviously, libraries shared).
Maybe these features are already available. If so, I’d greatly appreciate if someone could point me to them, as I couldn’t find them in the UI or in the documentation; if not, I think these could greatly increase QoL for admins working with the home user features.
