[Feature Request] Restrict Shared Content by Denying Labels and Ratings

+1
Long time Plex Pass member here. I would love to have this feature as well. While I don’t typically have an issue with my personal movie collections, there are many times I simply cannot share photos with all family members and having the ability to “hide” certain photos without having to break up many pictures and home videos would be the best addition to Plex for me. Admittedly when my cousin happen to find a video of my wife giving birth to my oldest son, my wife nearly ordered me to shut down my plex server. :#

Much prefer to be denying TV shows and movies then choosing to allow everyone. Right now it takes way more time to allow all of them then to just deny the occasional that I want hidden.

+1 - would be much simpler to just deny access rather than have to create a safe list.

It just make more sense, especially for extensive collections.

It’s a lot easier to exclude a few than labeling most of them

My request is similar, but I want to use it in reverse… I have 2 kids and my oldest can watch more content than my youngest. Since you can only sync content from one account, I need his account to include all of the content from the “kid safe” folder but then have additional content I’ve labeled with his name. Since the restrictions and labels are implemented as an “and”, I have to label everything he can watch with his name. If I had the ability to select that they were implemented as an “or”, I could give him permission to every folder, set the restriction to G and PG, then label anything else I want him to have access to with his name. So, please ensure if you solve this request, you do so in a way that enables it to be used in either direction. Ideally, giving the ability to select “and”/“or” between restrictions and labels.

+1 (and upvoted). There are a lot of older movies that were rated a lot more leniently than they would be rated today, for example, or sometimes I just want to restrict based on genre because there are PG movies that give kids nightmares.

+1 on needing this feature and the ability to and/or ratings and labels together

+1 for this. Would be a really useful feature. Wouldn’t need to change much as far as UI goes - just add the option to add a modifier such as “-” before a label to exclude that label.

+1 please add this feature - this is so much better than having to label everything that’s allowed

+1, please add this, One restricted by rating it only leaves a small selections of movies or tv shows that need to be restricted.

+1 - Would also like to see this.

+1 I’m surprised this hasn’t been added yet. Seems like it’s be one of the easier features to add and is in high demand. Couldn’t really use it.

+10 Please add this feature.

I came here looking for a way to restrict by label and struck out. However, I thought I would share my workaround since I didn’t like the idea of assigning a label to everything just so I could restrict a couple movies.

What I did instead is change the Content Rating of the “restricted” movies to a new rating (like “NoShare”). Then I went to the user settings and allowed all ratings EXCEPT my new “NoShare” rating. Still a workaround, but at least I don’t have to do anything when I add new movies.

+10 for this feature just select content and select the user that cant see the content

What a brilliant workaround! I have been wracking my brain to find a way around this as I have a big selection of 4K HDR films that I don’t want to share with my friends and family due to bandwidth and the fact the HDR won’t work for most of them.

This is genuinely the first sensible solution to the issue I’ve seen and believe me I have searched high and low. Thanks again
