I’ve decided to split off Kids Movies into its own library from the main Movies library, but I don’t see a good way to move the entire movie (physical folder & file(s), database entry with movie metadata, poster, background images, etc) to a different library. Right now it looks like I’d have to move the folder myself, update the new library to pickup the moved movie folder, then re-pick the poster and background (if they were changed). I have many movies to put into the new Kids Movies library and it’d be fantastic if I didn’t have to perform these steps manually.
One of the principles of Plex is that it does not write to or modify your media files. With this in mind, your request would violate this principle. You will have to move all the Kids movies to a new folder and add that folder to the “Kid’s Library”.
That’s a pretty big shortfall to Plex not being able to do this. I would even love it if Plex could transfer the movie “object” to another library, keeping artwork settings intact and requiring me to manually move the folder from X:\Movies to X:\KidsMovies. That way, once the file is manually moved, Plex will see it again and continue along its merry way. I don’t really care one way or another if Plex moves it, I just want to retain the work that was put into setting the cover and background images, as well as not having to have Plex re-detect the movie as new.
