Feature request : Saving/Reading subtitles in a user nominated location/folder

It would help a lot if plex media server could have the ability to read/save subtitles that are located in a user nominated centralized folder that I can set. The subtitle can be named exactly as the video file. Something similar to what Kodi has.

I keep my subtitles in one centralized folder on my NAS and it makes it much easier to maintain it. This is possible in Kodi but in Plex you have to keep the subtitle in the same folder as the main movie which clutters it up. I would like to keep movies separate from other files like the subtitles, poster, fanart, etc. Something which is possible with Kodi but not in Plex.

Just wondering… is there a particular reason why you want the subtitles to be in an entirely different location?
As for decluttering… there’s an existing suggestion discussing an option for Plex to support a dedicated subfolder for subtitles (as with local extras).

My original setup and which currently exists is for Kodi which runs perfectly where I have my movies on a shared windows server on drive c: and the subtitles are on the sd card of my local Nvidia Shield setup. I added Plex server to serve local network workstations (for users on Plex) so I want to take advantage of the current file setup on the server and not go into the trouble of reorganizing everything in the file structure. Besides there are hundreds of existing subtitles already in the user nominated folder already. I want to keep movies separate from subtitles and don’t want to go to move the subtitles individually with the movies. It also makes management of subtitles easier as I can always go into the main folder and locate a particular subtitle to update or replace it instead of having to dig into several layers of folders in the main movies folder just to get to the subtitle. And of course the decluttering …

Perhaps an added option in the Agents section to add a user defined location on a local or remote hard drive path for subtitles … the user has a choice … either in a Subtitle sub-folder within the main movie folder like what the other user wants or in an entirely different location. In short, a freedom to choose where the user would like to read subtitles locally.

This will make Plex more flexible and make the program more appealing and open to users.
