I imagine I’m not the first to request these features but thought I’d bring it up if it hasn’t been or has been awhile since the dev’s considered.
Like many Plex server operators I’ve got a few users I rarely get the chance to talk with and too many to individually notify of maintenance. Recently I’ve upgraded my server and migrated the primary back-end storage to a SAN. The process involved several hours of downtime and frequent reboots over a 2-3 day period. It would have been amazing if I could have set a notification for users for planned maintenance windows and/or had a server news displayed in a similar fashion to the Plex News section.
As a developer I know the frustrations users have when they experience un-announced service interruptions and/or long service outages. Though I ask nothing of my users I feel responsible for providing them with a high level of service, a big part of that being communication. Downtime is inevitable, if we could do something to communicate planned or unplanned outages to our users it would go a long way in helping us server admins keep our sanity.
