I have run into this problem a few times. It occurs with shows that are a short series and aren't going to have seasons. Most of the time when I've downloaded them they are named Episode 1 xxx or E01 xxxxx, etc. An example of this is the show BBC Life. I have a version of this. I have put it in a Folder named Life and within this it is in a Folder named Life S01. Each episode is named Exx. When this is scanned by Plex it labels it Season 3 and then can't find any episode information as there is no S03 for this show. Some might say to just rename it, but if I do then I can no longer seed it. It would be much easier if Plex could support this common naming format
Folder structure
TV Shows/Life/Life S01/Exx
I'd like Plex to recognize files named this way and not need the Sxx in the name preceding the Exx. It should see that it is in folder S01 and then know that every file that has Exx in the title is an episode of that season.
Interesting…
So you’d like the Regex to pull the Season number from the Parent Folder instead of the filename?
If there isn’t a season in the file name then it should pull it from the folder. I believe other scrapers can do this so why not Plex
Well Plex has no issue recognizing episodes without SEE
I use this structure for my series:
Merlin
S01
1x01 - Pilot
S02
2x01 - title
I know for sure that Plex also recognize some anime I have where the structure is:
Anime
S01
01 - Pilot
02 - Title
S02
01 - Title
02 - Title
The secret is to have a season folder it recognizes ie S01, S02.
Ok. I seem to be getting a different experience. I had a series set up like this
TV Shows/
S01
1e01
I had to change the episodes to SxxExx to get Plex to recognize them.
The scanner will accept many naming conventions.
S01E01 (preferred)
1x01 (preferred)
101 (preferred)
ep01
01
Unfortunately, 1e01 is not one of them.
Was going to say, it's probably the leading 1 in 1e01 as I've got plenty of seasons set as " E## - Episodename.EXT "
