[Feature Request] Syncronised video playback between all players

Hello all

I’ve been using plex for a very long time now and so far i’ve always loved it.
I am saddened that i missed the chance to get a lifetime pass back when it used to be cheaper. However theres one feature that might pull me and my lady into the plex premium group.

A feature that allows for syncronised videoplayback between all users who wants to join into a movie session.

It’s maybe not much of a big showy feature but its very useful when trying to watch a movie with somebody thats elsewhere.

Real life scenario is that my lady studies abroad, we watch movies on plex but spend at least 15 min trying to hit the play button at roughly the same time. its harder than it sounds. All for the sake of trying to get that feeling of being in the same room.

It would be great if we could have a way to watch a movie together together at the same instance so that there wont be any more
waiting until the other person is done with their instance of movie watching
and also no more spoilers during playback because both are watching at the same time.

And maybe theres even more uses for it.

I like Sync-Play just to get that sense of being in a theatre with my lady, not just by myself.

Anyway i thought i’d give this feature request a shot for whatever its worth.
Thanks for reading tho!

Ya’ll have a nice day!

Never in a million years… and that is a wild guess, but probably fairly accurate.

There’s just too many variables when you start dealing with remote locations via the internet. Local traffic is pretty much ‘right now’. Remote traffic is pretty much when it can get there and The Maker only knows what has to happen to get it there.

I came by Plex to see if i can get a black Friday discount for a lifetime subscription or at least an answer from the plex team but nothing…

Working abroad all the time urged me to drop a request, i’m sure i wont be the only one that would love such a feature.

Naahh… you’re overthinking it lol. Saying that its too many variables isn’t really an accurate analysis to come to the conclusion of it not being possible.

In fact its fairly simple to accomplish. It’s just streaming video as usual but in addition also sending what timeframe the host is at + a delay in ms (ping) that’s pretty much it (without out any fancy extras).

They said that about converting singleplayer games to multiplayer games too and then came Euro Truck sim multiplayer mod

Apparently some Polish developers are a million years ahead…

Now how about a similar integration of this within Plex ?

Sorry about the double post but did anybody get a chance to checkout the feature i’m asking about ?

Heres an example of what would be a great asset into Plex features set:

How about a similar integration of this within Plex ? ^:)^

Warp Drive - Never in a million years, but in a million years +1 I’m going to have them unfreeze me because I really want to explore the galaxy. You see great minds are put off by that little hairy genius and the little wheeled genius telling everyone it just can’t happen, but work-around artists are pretty clever. See ya in a million and one.

To date none of our work-around artists have been able to come up with anything for your issue, but check back in a million years. I’m told the freezer right next to mine is available.

Plex Pass holders can add their vote for this feature by clicking ‘Like’ on the first post in this thread.

It’s hard to imagine that true synchronization is possible, given the lag times involved with the internet, but who knows?

What about this?

Everyone in the sync session is dependent on everyone else, so when that one guy out there in the armpit of the world has someone between he and everyone else start playing a video at GoatPron.com everyone pauses until LeRoy can catch up.

Ok… maybe not so good.

It would be easier to invent (along with Warp Drive) a personal transporter system. On Movie Night everyone steps on the pad in their home, streams themselves to Bob’s house and Bob presses Play. Easy.
