[Feature Request] The option to allow users other than the owner to delete media

It would be nice if I could allow my wife (managed user) to delete things out of her library. Seems like a toggle on a per-user and per-library basis would help a lot of people.

I’m sorry if this was covered but hear me out. Everyone has different circumstances for sharing. So don’t allow users to delete, but instead allow them to vote for it or let each user flag it as ‘done/watched’ so the administration knows not to keep it if 2/3rds are done?

Some keener admins will know this but a flag might help for those who are just trying to keep it tidy.

+1 from here as well. As noted above, with multiple users on the system, and the PVR functionality, there are many “get”, “watch”, “delete” videos in the system, and allowing other users to delete them would be a huge convenience.

Another slant on this might be the delete function attached to recordings.
I haven’t tested this but the DVR options have ‘delete after admin watched plus x days’
If this could be changed to ‘delete after user xxxx, watched after x days’ then this might fulfill a lot of these needs. I know I record a lot of shows just for the mrs and would love them to disappear after she has watched.

■■■■ it people, just give everyone admin rights so you won’t be bothered to delete ■■■■ yourselves.

I posted this as a feature request in the “Feature Requests” forum. Go “Like” it to show your support.

As others have said, administration of the server is more than just deleting media. I have one server for the family and I’m OK with having them delete the media they watch. What I’m not OK with is giving them the ability to change settings in the software itself.

This really needs to be prioritized – the system can’t be used as a DVR if only one person can delete shows for the entire family. Right now, I have my wife, parents, and kids texting me so I can go in once every few days to delete the stuff they watched. It’s ridiculous that they can’t do that themselves.

As for the suggestion above, I’d be happy to give all the managed admin rights, or even make non-managed accounts just to get rid of this headache, but is that even possible? Googling for this led me nowhere, so if this is indeed a feature, please let me know!

Alternatively, what would solve my problem is just allowing nested libraries. The only reason I even have managed users is that each person in my family has their own library, with the TV/music/movies they’re interested in, which in my case means a ton of libraries to scroll through. So I’m using managed users as a way to get around that, because this way I can give each user access to only the libraries they care about.

But if I could have a library for all the TV shows, and then another one in there for just my wife’s shows, that would be fine, because everyone could log in as the admin user and get to their shows quickly and delete them. Of course, there are other nice benefits to splitting up by user, such as the recommendations being more accurate. But one really annoying thing is that I have to choose the user every time I open Plex. I’m the only one that uses my computer and phone – it should just assume the previous user.

I guess at the end of the day, the main issue here is that managed users seems to have been a feature bolted on as an afterthought.

That is admin. Just saying.

Huh? Sorry, you lost me there

That’s okay.

I’m surprised there has been so much resistance to this fundamental question that’s not about choosing some sort of majority rule, but simply providing the option to do this which would take a matter of minutes for Plex to code. Where people have objected to the idea of even offering the capability for users to be enabled for DVR file deletion, for example, the simple fact is: none of your business.

All that’s left is for Plex to execute this extremely old and clearly in-demand “feature request” which is really a minimum of elbow grease - just toggling the switch for non-admin users.

My Wife uploaded PICTURE from her phone. I want her to be able to remove those bad picture or the picture she took as temporary documents.

I don’t want to go after all her picture. at the minimum give the user and option to flag files to be deleted.

As the admin i will go in that section and approve de deletion.

That is the only point i need resolved for my wife to be able to manage her own stuff or toggle removal request. this option could be set as a per user option to activate.

I am about the get a 8 Tera bite My cloud drive to keep my picture safe and my wife also.

don’t make me beg

BTW the DVR is cool with homrun quadro !

Why can’t I vote for this? It is insane that you can set “delete after watched” per show, but only shows watched by the admin/owner?! Why can’t other users trigger the same thing? Come on Plex, please finish rounding out user abilities - limiting delete to one user is a major pain.

I agree with the need for this feature. The only way Plex can be a viable DVR replacement is to add this feature or provide a way to setup parental controls which does not require creating a separate user.

+1 for managed users to delete shows. Not sure how to upvote things. It’s not very intuitive in these forums. If there’s a concern about changing files on the system, then why is deletion offered at all even for the main account. The reason is because this software would be a lousy fail if you couldn’t delete with in the app. It should be an option that could be toggled on and off for different managed users. You know this is the right thing to do Plex, be bold and let managed users delete files just like you let the main account users delete files. It’s probably not even that hard to program.
