[Feature Request] View All Shared Media at Once

It would be cool to be able to view movies or tv shows, etc. of all shared libraries at once for both web and mobile. Maybe adding a server called “ALL” or something. Just thought it would make it easier to find movies without having to switch shared server names. This would also add the function of searching a movie and showing it for all servers on mobile (I know it’s already on the web version)

This would also have the ability to make a playlist with movies from multiple shared libraries

Good idea if all the shared servers you have access to could feed into a single library.

If you have the content locally then play that as preference (in the case that the same content is in multiple libraries) if not then stream it from elsewhere.

Bump to be looked at again

I’m really trying to figure out what you are asking for here… Let me take a stab at what I THINK you want…

I share out my library with you. Someone else shares out their library as well. Rather than having separate server menus you want to lump his media and libraries into a group with mine, and then you can scroll through this to find the media you want to watch. This is what you are asking for?

Correct.

Instead of having to select different servers. Have an option to merge specific libraries so that my friends Movies library gets merged with mine. That way I dont look through all of my movies then look through all of mine trying to find something to watch. I simply look through the combined “Movies” library and pick something, it doesnt matter where it comes from (Locally prefered in the case of clashes).

I want to know if the media is mine or theirs. I want to know exactly who owns the rights to it and the hardware it is stored on. To me that is as important as the media being available to watch. If I don’t have it already, but I notice someone from one of the libraries shared with me has something, I usually go out and get it for myself.

To accomplish that, you would need everyone to set up their libraries the same. Everyone has to have a “Movie” library, instead of a “Westerns” and a “War” and a “Biography” libraries… Or “Adult’s only” with the more risqué stuff in that library. How would you want to do a merge like this? Everything that’s classified as a “Movie” gets dumped into the same library for viewing the list? Then why did the person sharing with you take the time and effort to break out his libraries by genre? He did it for a reason… Maybe it was to make the list he has of movies smaller units of the whole scrolling mass he has… And what if his private “Home Movies” suddenly got lumped in with your list of movies somehow, and you may see your friend in a more “revealing” light.

Merging servers, like what you are asking for, should be done by the server owner. If I maintain 2 or more servers and I want them grouped together so my users get a single server interface to select with the libraries grouped in this manner it should be my decision as the admin. Not yours for simplicity sake. If I have a server that only has Westerns on it, and a server with RomComs on it, I should be the one making the conscious decision to group them together for my users. Then, if I choose to do this, they see a “Westerns” library and a “RomCom” library under my ID. And they would have no idea or visibility that the media is stored on 2 separate devices. But, ultimately, that decision to group them together should be MINE as the server owner and not yours as a user of my media.

I’m sorry, but this is something I can’t get behind. I can see the next step being that you would want to share my libraries out with your users, and that would be totally unacceptable.

Firstly, I appreciate the technical difficulties in how to do this (Everyones library is different etc…) And if anything that is the strongest reason for this not going ahead.

I disagree with your para 3. What Im talking about is you already having shared content with me and me choosing to display it in a consolidated library. Sharing your content with other people. I agree, that should be your choice but I see no issue with viewing/displaying content that you have agreed to share with me in a way that is convenient to me.

So if I’m sharing my servers and they show up as distinctly different servers, you would still want them grouped up? And that I shouldn’t be able to group them as I see fit with my own equipment, media and sharing?

I guess if you feel that way, it’s your right to… But II would love the ability to have merged servers, from the aspect of newer stuff on one and older stuff on another and having the watched status merged on both as well, so as newer stuff gets moved to the older server, the watched status moves with it. Without having to resort to something like Trakt to accomplish this…

It would be like clicking to change whose server you are viewing and there being an “All Servers” Section. When you click a movie you can see which servers it’s and when you click play, you can choose the server/version to play from…which would be nice if another of my friends servers has a better of a movie I’m looking at or vice versa. It’s very beneficial if I have 5 friends who share their servers and I just want to browse all of the servers
