Feedback on 8.6.0.20028-beta for Android TV

Just installed the new beta today and on the whole I really like the new look however there are a few things worth feeding back about:

  1. When in a TV show it and you have the horizontal queue of episodes (episode 1, 2 , 3) etc it is very difficult to know which episode you are have highlighted, I know it is a tad bit more bigger then the others on either side but it is not big enough or there is not enough focus telling you which one you have highlighted.

  2. When you browse a show that has theme music and then you come out of that show and then enter one without any music a few bars of whatever you browsed before will play before it fades out.

  3. Scrolling through collections horizontally is the worst possible way to browse, there was a lot of feedback about this when you did the mobile app and you reverted back, I hope you please do the same here.

  4. In music for artists that have a large number of albums only some show, so example under Michael Jackson it only displays albums/singles from 2014 to 1997 and there seems to be no button to display all.

  5. Still in music, this seems to act differently on different albums but on some when you get to the bottom of a album track list (generally around track 11 or 12) the track list either stops scrolling so you can’t see highlighted tracks. I have also seen that on one album track 13 was kind of half of the screen and one more click down took me back to the top of the list.

Good feedback. These are all things I noticed as well, along with a Play Trailer button seemingly appearing for any movie with extras, even if there is no actual trailer available. Selecting that button will just play whatever the first extra is.

Hopefully the devs are watching. It’s great to see the UI update finally make it’s way to Android TV.

Adding on to the feedback of TV Season view, I would add that we need the return of the “unwatched” flag (colored corner overlay or some other visual cue). Otherwise you have to scroll over to each one to see watched/unwatched status.

Yes - the ‘tag’ in the corner to indicate Unplayed was useful.

Thanks for the feedback!

Most of the bugs reported here are known and the design decisions are under discussion.

Personally I don’t mind the horizontal scrolling. Of all the problems in the world this one is minor.

Overall I love the new pre-play look. Still some bugs there but I’m sure you’ll get them ironed out.

It destroys the posters and really make them look ugly. I see everywhere on my screen orange triangles. I like the progress bar at the bottom of the poster (I.e. movie details screen).

Additionally there has been made a big progress on design of detail screen however would be nice to have for home screen also blurred mode, genre recommendations & watchlist (similar to Plex own library)

We are not talking about world problems we are talking about Plex. I guess it all depends on how many movies you have in a collection. My Comedy Movie collection has 200 movies, with horizontal scroll I have to click right about 198 times to see all the movies in the collection.

Scrolling vertically allows a lot more films to shown on screen and the amount of scrolling is drastically reduced.

Scrolling through long collections I found another bug, say I have 200 items and scroll to item 50 and enter that item to read the synopsis or watch the trailer, when I exit back into the collection it goes back to the beginning instead of the item I was on. Very annoying.

8.6.0.20226-beta seems to have at least resolved the music library issues from what I’ve seen. Artists with 12+ albums show all of them, and scrolling through tracks is working as expected now.

Some of the other things mentioned appear to be design decisions, so hopefully those are being considered as well.

One feedback item I would like with the newer UI is if it is possible to have an indicator whether or not a movie is on hdr/Dolby vision. Right now there are movies with 4k and no hdr, and movies in 4k and hdr.

Mpegts Dolby vision broken?
