Feedback on PlexAmp Windows client

Player Version#: 3.1.1

Today I’ve decided to give a try PlexAmp.
As I was on my PC I tried the Windows client first.

Here is my feedback from someone that likes the app overall, but as some critisim points:

  1. When playing something and you are in the view with the curent music, art, visualizer, etc:

    • Inconsistent navigation design with the down arrow button: I understand the idea, however in Windows you don’t have a back button, etc like in mobile. I’ve been lost multiple times trying to figure out “How the heck do I go back!”
      Here are my suggestions:
      • The bottom bar with the “Home, search, etc” should ALWAYS be visible. With this you wouldn’t even need the down arrow button at all.
      • The naviagation arrow should respect the “Back” arrow location on all the other pages of the App. It can continue to be pointing down, but should use the top left corner location, its much more intuitive then the random middle location it has now. This doesn’t even matter if you change to add my first suggestion as this arrow would no longer be needed.
    • Add support to have the cover Art with the visualizer behind. Suggestion:
      • The visualizer would be always visible unless we pick “Off” in the right-click options that you use to pick the visualizer type.
      • Clicking on the Cover Art would just show or hide the Cover Art as it does now, but keep the Visualizer behind it. Will look really cool and should be pretty easy to achieve.
  2. When I’ve logged in for the first time, it asked me to login, which used the browser redirection (I’m a fan of this), but since I had no “Music” type collection on my servers, it kept saying that was unable to connect to the server.
This is very unintuitive and results on worry to the end user.
The app should simply login normally and say: “No songs available” or “Add songs to a Music Library in your Plex server” on the required sections such as “Recently Added Music”.

  3. Another criticism from this app behaving like a mobile app.
Where the heck is the “Maximize, Minimize and Exit” freaking button? Really?
And no, having it on a right-click is not the answer, for the average user they won’t find it.

Edit:
4. Another thing that you missed don’t know how. Maybe once more due to this most likely be a ported mobile app.
Volume option? Not all apps in windows need to be forced to play at max volume or we forced to use Windows Sound mixer
