So my plex server and app work fine but i did notice that now my plex app on xbox one plays one file but has a description for another file in the folder and everything gets played out of order. I tried reinstalling my entire library and that did not seem to work. When i check on my pc, all of the file names add up and are correct. Is there a particular setting i have overlooked to fix this?
If you play the same files on Plex Web does it play a different file than the one the Xbox is playing?
ends up playing the wrong file on both. has the description as one file on both and then plays the wrong file on both. Only does it for some shows.
Is it possible that your file is 2 or more episodes in one file? Possibly named something like “TV Show S01E01E02.mp4?” Plex will list the single file as two separate episodes, but selecting either will play the same file. That is, it won’t start halfway through at the second episode if you select episode 2
I never thought of that but i checked my file listings and they are all named according to the episode and there appears to be no crossovers at all. everything is labelled as it should be.

Thats where Plex pulls the episode data for TV shows.
It is possible that your shows are just mislabeled. There are some cases where a 2 parter episode is released as 2 episodes but thetvdb lists it only as 1 episode and so on.
If the filename matches what’s in thetvdb.com and it still isn’t working properly, another possibility is that the metadata of the file is wrong. What file format are you using? Are they mp4’s? I have problems with mp4’s, because for some reason Plex pulls the episode info from the metadata rather than the filename even though it’s not supposed to. So if the metadata is wrong, but the filename is correct, the show/episode will show up incorrectly in Plex. That’ll also make it look like the wrong file is being played. To fix the metadata issue, I use mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/) to clear the episode number in the metadata. After the episode number is cleared, Plex will use the filename for the episode.
