Server Version#:1.24.2
Player Version#:current versions of firetv, android, web browser players
hello
i’ve been having this problem for a long time and it happens on all three players listed above - files will be missing from the list of playable videos or they will be listed under duplicate names with different frame images. i don’t think i am using the latest plex server because it kept crashing on windows 10 - anybody seen anything similar? as you can see from the sample images - plex is showing 3 episodes of final space - the drive they are stored in on the windows 10 machine/onedrive folder has 6 while the photoguru mobile player also lists all 6 episodes. any ideas or tips to solve this issue please? thanks!
plex android app:

photoguru file listing:

i use photoguru as a backup player on FireTV when Plex fails me like this but it does not allow file deletions which i need when i finish watching a show.
please help! thanks!

no replies in 28 days - can someone please tell me how to get support for this software? here is another example image - the item listed as Final SPace S2e12 and has the thumbnail of ted lasso is actually Survivor - who can help me debug this software and get this server debugged? all latest versions - all clients show the same results and server is updated and on the same LAN. thanks!
2 months no response - how do i get in touch with Plex support on these bugs?
not related to my question - i am saying the names on the Plex player are completely different from the filenames on the disk - not that they are somewhat wrong or in the wrong category - completely wrong and incorrect and swapped with other files.
can’t anyone tell me how to report a bug to plex??
Got pinged about this thread. That looks like the other videos library type. Can you show me that same page on Plex Web? I think Plex has combined some of your videos together. Click on one of those Final Space episodes, then on the next screen click on the … menu. Do you see a “Play version” option at the bottom?
hello
thanks for the response!
attached is the image you requested - i have been moving files around - renaming them - copying them to come up with a way to show them all in order and with the correct names and it is now stable - all files are correct - but i can work to cause the problem again if you need me to. yes they are other videos type and don’t show the correct file names or are out of order or missing. all videos are stored on a local windows 10 server SSD drive and kept in sync by OneDrive - please advise - thanks! brad
That screenshot doesn’t help since it’s not the same files you mentioned were missing.
Can you check these settings for the library?

it is different because i posted the question in october. with good luck now i have no failure examples - i will load more shows to try and trigger the issue.
sorry could not find that setting under agents - is it on the client or server side?
thanks!
That setting is when you edit the library under the advanced tab.
Ok, so it should not be skipping any files. It’s possibly the merging of names I mentioned above.
If you see the issue again. Run a manual scan, then grab the PMS logs, post them along with the filename that is missing.
ok i can do that. will reload them all with original names and see if it happens again.
i did not see a comment about merging - what is that and why would it happen?
besides skipping what about incorrect/duplicate names and incorrect images?
what about the fact that they are out of order alphabetically? that is happening right now - see image. is it possible the system uses meta-data rather than just the files names and is there a way to turn this off so it uses only file names? in this particular example it is in order but the filenames are in a different order so metadata is all i can think of that might be different.
thanks
brad
Sorry, I didn’t use the term merging in my original response. When Plex sees 2 identical titles, it can merge them into 1 entry. There is then an option to “play version” to select the one you want. This is meant for when you have multiple versions of the same movie. Theatrical release, director’s cut, extended version, etc. However, this shouldn’t happen for content in your “Other videos” library.
what about the fact that they are out of order alphabetically?
Those are alphabetical. 9 1 1 comes before 9-1-1
Plex shouldn’t be using the embedded metadata for “Other videos” so I don’t think that’s the problem. Have you checked if those files do have an embedded title and does it match what you see in that image?
hi
ok thanks for the merging tip.
Those are alphabetical.
9 1 1comes before9-1-1
exactly my point - the file names are identical except for show number following show name - so where is it getting this “9 1 1” name from if the filename is “9-1-1” on both of them?
Plex shouldn’t be using the embedded metadata for “Other videos” so I don’t think that’s the problem. Have you checked if those files do have an embedded title and does it match what you see in that image?
where do i find this? i tried windows properties and tags inside a video editor and did not see any alternate name for the video.
thanks!
brad
I just tested and I’m unable to get the embedded title to be used for an “Other video” library. It’s always the filename for me. I tested with both MP4 and mkv files.
Look at the file properties under the details tab.

So for this file I see “Casino Royale” not “test”. If you don’t see anything, then I don’t know where that name is coming from.
If you can take the file for s03e01, move it to another folder so PMS doesn’t see it, scan the library, put the file back, scan again. Then get me your PMS logs. It might say where it is getting that other name from.
hello. on both files title is blank - filename is the same. i have no idea where it is getting any alternate title information which is is using for sorting.
i removed s03e01 from the folder
clicked update libraries on the plex server taskbar
verified it was not in the list.
copied file back to tv folder
noticed it scanned right away - waited for it to complete scanning
verified name is incorrect - sorting out of order
attached log to this message.
s02e09 also has this alternate name issue with spaces and is also out of order.
happy to provide these video files to you if you have a secure email i can send the links to. or you can guest on my server.
thanks!

hello
something has changed since last night- the sort order has been fixed with the two 9-1-1 related videos - for no reason i know of - they both now use dashes again and one file now says “copy” but there is no file with that in the name - where did it come up with this name which the file used to have days ago? thanks.

Your logs show that the file was initially inaccessible. Are these files actually on your computer and synced up to OneDrive or is the OneDrive folder a mounted drive (i.e. only exists on OneDrive)?
If it’s local, then this could be due to OneDrive uploading the file making it inaccessible. If it’s mounted, might be a cache issue so it couldn’t access the file right away.

I don’t know where it’s getting that name, but for some reason it is not using the dashes.

Can you get me the latest logs?
hello. logs attached.

this is a folder synced to OneDrive (always on this machine) so when i move them to the synced folder in Onedrive on another machine, then they are downloaded by the plex server machine local drive to stay in sync, so yes there may be a delay while this download takes place - same as copying any file slowly to that folder plex is watching.
If it’s local, then this could be due to OneDrive uploading the file making it inaccessible. If it’s mounted, might be a cache issue so it couldn’t access the file right away.
yes - not available right away - second scan should get it.
if there is a better way to do this please let me know.
thanks!
