In the web application of Plex you can download files from your library. That is a very handy feature. However, it always downloads as ‘file.mp4’ or ‘file.mkv’ instead of using the original file name. This is very annoying if you download several episodes of a show.
Is this a bug? Can this be improved?
I am using version 2.4.18 and Chrome 44.
Try right-clicking (or option-clicking when on Mac) on the download link.
Then choose ‘Save link as…’
For some reason, this retains the original file name.
Thats a nice workaround Otto, but does anyone know if this will be fixed sometime? It would be nice if it would retain the original and correct file name instead of file.mkv or file.avi.
Thanks
Yeah, having a sensible filename when you download would be nice.
Hi, I thought this issue was solved as with Chrome prior v60 and Plex web player version before 3.9.1 I was able to download files from the Plex Web Player by right clicking on a title -> Download and it will be downloading the file with its right name (for example, if I want to download to my local PC the title “24 S01 E01” the download option will be downloading “24 S01 E01.avi”). However since today (I updated server to 1.7.5.4035 bring web player to 3.9.1 (and also updating Google Chrome to v60)) if I click on download the file name in the previous case will be “file.avi”. Has something been changed in the last update? I have also checked with Firefox and the problem exists as well. Thank you!
This is techie, but looking at the source code generated it looks like the download attribute is missing…
Could this be fixed in next release?
