I looked through all the support articles and forums but the answer is extremely contorted
All i need to know is how to name my folders and files for a compilation album e.g. Now thats what i call music! 92
The naming convention i’ve currently got is:
Music
Various Artists
Now thats what i call music! 92
1-01 - Madonna - Music.mp3
1-02 - Slipknot - Sulfur.mp3
etc.
Where all files are immaculately tagged using picard (musicbrainz), album artist is always “Various Artists” and “Artist” is the track artist
Please explain required file naming convention (something like XX - YYYYY - ZZZZZ)
Thanks
If Plex is configured to use your embedded tags, the file/folder naming isn’t important.
However, to answer the question, one of the Plex Ninjas made it more clear than the Help page in this response to another post.
In the case of the sample you posted, I’d say everything’s right except for the leading “1-”. I presume that’s the disc number. Rather than that, separate the files into subfolders for “disc 01,” “disc 02,” etc.
Music
Various Artists
Now thats what i call music! 92
Disc 01
01 - Madonna - Music.mp3
02 - Slipknot - Sulfur.mp3
Disc 02
01 - somebody - some song.mp3
etc.
Yes i saw that thanks, its still pretty contorted and definately not in right place for plex newcomers (should be in the support threads) but i guess that answers my question thanks
FYI for other new comers, as beckfield says the file naming doesnt matter so much if your ID3 tags are in a good state. I confirmed this by running one of my compilation albums using my current naming (above) with all discs in one folder and another album in Plex Ninjas convention in the linked thread (also above). The result showed no difference between the two appearing in my music libary within plex
EDIT:
Yes the leading “1-” i use is for the disc number. It doesnt seem to effect plex using this in the filename presumably when your tags are good
i have put all information you have said it just gives me name of song can you help now music
