File Naming for TV Shows - Not the standard question

I have figured out how to name TV shows for Plex. But not all TV show DVDs are the same. For instance, I have season 9 of Friends. No problem there s09e01, etc. I also have “The Best of Friends” that has 4 volumes with episode from all different seasons mixed up. Of course they do not list the season and episode numbers on the DVD, just the useless title of the episode. Short of looking up all the episode names to number them correctly, I am trying to create a Best of Friends main category with volumes 1-4. I can not seem to get this done. Any suggestions?

Yes. Look them up at The TV DB and place them in the correct folder structure and name them correctly, There really is no alternative in Plex to correct naming.

I just tried that with the first disk. To make thing even worse, the episodes are not even ordered correctly on the DVD. The DVD name on each segment is some useless numbering system. It also appears in Friends, they never show the name of the episode on screen. So the only way to figure out which episode is which, is to watch it, which is not going to happen.

Since these are my wife’s DVD, I have created a non existent season 25 and simply named them s25e01, etc. She will have to figure it out. LOL.

Thanks!

You can specify DVD order rather than ordered by air date although I am not sure this will help your case. This was brought in to solve the Firefly problem where the episodes were transmitted by the network out of order intended by Joss Whedon but then ordered correctly on the DVD.
