I just discovered plex and I am now ripping our DVD collection after setting up a Plex server on an old laptop. Everything is great and the forums have been an incredible source of information. I have just run into a minor file naming issue I hope you can help me resolve.
My DVD if Scrooge (1951) has 4 versions of the movie
B&W 4x3
B&W 16x9
Colorized 4x3
Colorized 16x9
What is the best file structure to have each item show up in the plex menu?
Example 1
Scrooge (1951)-B&W 4x3
Scrooge (1951)-B&W 16x9
Scrooge (1951)-Colorized 4x3
Scrooge (1951)-Colorized 16x9
Or
Example 2
Scrooge (1951)
**Scrooge (1951)-B&W 4x3
**Scrooge (1951)-B&W 16x9
**Scrooge (1951)-Colorized 4x3
** Scrooge (1951)-Colorized 16x9
or is there some other way of doing it?
Should I drop all the bonus material (trailers etc.) in the main folder or in each subfolder if example 2 is the way to go?
If I may: ask yourself if you really need 4 versions of the same movie, which are only minimally different. I’d try and store only a version which has the original aspect ratio.
You can tell your TV later to zoom into the picture if you don’t like the black borders on the sides.
Now everything named ‘correctly’ as you have it, will be added as a separate entity, all going along side by side in Recently Added if added at once, or each new ‘Version’ will.
Merge behavior altered… for whatever reason.
Only The Shadow Knows…
I knew there had to be something wrong with you and until just now I didn’t know what.
Out of the two people you mention - your Ma is the normal one…
New Plaza named them correctly. [Brackets] should enclose non-compliant elements in a file name so Plex will ignore them.
‘The Guide’ is what it is.
It needs a re-write, but HB is still whacked out on DVD Anamorphic Settings and I’m not going to write a new Guide until HB fixes it.
