File structure and naming for Movies

None of those bundles are in that directory, currently.

OK. Then we must look somewhere else.

Switch on error logging, restart plex Media Server afterwards.

Then perform the Plex Dance for about 1 to 3 movies with extras.
then wait 5 minutes (please no playback or even just browsing of libraries in this time)
then grab the logs, zip and PM them to me.

So renaming a movie directory and then updating seems to be the solution to my issue. Seems to me that Plex needs to be a bit more thorough when one hits the “Update” button. It seems to be “assuming” a bit too much.

Thanks for all your help!

There might be another reason for this behaviour:
Back then when you added the movies to plex, if you had a different agent for this library (personal media for instance), then plex will stick to that older agent.
You can force plex to use a different agent for a particular movie, if you do the following:

  • enter the movie’s preplay screen
  • click on the ellipsis ( . . . ) on the left side
  • choose ‘Fix incorrect match’
  • click Auto-Match
  • and then either ‘Freebase’ or ‘The Movie Database’

This should be sufficient (in theory at least), so you don’t have to perform the whole “dance”.

I’m a new user of plex only a couple of months. I’ve ripped one of my dvd’s and added the other directory structures as plex documentation says and had good success.
However I’ve just down loaded a web series legally i might add. the movie shows up in plex web server with all the actors using IMDB as source but none of the extras are showing up. Now this running windows 7 on a NAS drive if that matters. I’m running plex media server 1.16.3.1402-22929c8a2. Here is my directory structure that won’t show the extras in plex web server.

The Carmilla Movie
  The Carmilla Movie
    Extras
    Trailer
    The Carmilla Movie(2017).mp4

Now the funny thing is on the plex screen showing the info from imdb, the description of the movie and all of the actors faces and other related movies is play trailer button. It works but it doesn’t show the trailer directory.

Hopefully you explain where i goofed. I’m not sure if it because this is web based LEGAL download versus ripped from DVD.

Mike

Why is the The Carmilla Movie folder doubled?

How many different extras do you have?

Try this:

/ Movies
   / The Carmilla Movie
      The Carmilla Movie (2017).mp4
      Carmilla Movie-trailer.mp4
      Extra 1-scene.mp4
      Making Of-behindthescenes.mp4

I thought I saw somewhere that would double the main folder then add other folders for the extras. Maybe it’s time for more coffee. Now there 18 extra’s plus the trailer. I’ll save off my current folder and try your suggestion. Thank you for your time. I don’t always get time to get online to check my questions. I have a one year old grandson that lives with me and he loves his grandpa and wants to help type on the computer. never a good thing.
Thank you for the info. I’ll let you know how it worked out.

Well good news bad news. If i put everything into the main directory more of it shows up but not very pretty. Since this was a download purchase from web I don’t expect IMDB to have the info on all the extras. I was under the impression from one of the directory structure help pages that if i created an sub directory of extras/bonus, pick your name that plex would scan it and add those sub photos the main page when displaying the movie main metadata page with all the actors on it. I know one of my DVD rips I created the sub directories that match the dvd and it was nice. but what pain to build. Any other ideas?

I think i may have found my goof(lack of sleep and coffee), i found another reference showing the legal sub directories that I can add that Plex should be able to handle. Now that I’ve got this I’m going to try rebuilding the directory structure and hope for the best. Thank you for your patience and i’ll let you know how it turns out.

I bet you didn’t know that more coffee, sleep and the correct directory names works wonders!
Now I have my extras for the movie and they work great. Now I need to go look up some more documention before i ask any more silly questions.
Thank you Sir!
below are the extra directory names i used:
• Movie/MovieName (Release Date)/Extra_Directory_Type/Descriptive_name.ext
Where Extra_Directory_Type is one of:
• Behind The Scenes
• Deleted Scenes
• Featurettes
• Interviews
• Scenes
• Shorts
• Trailers

Have a good week.
This is solved please close.
