FileBot file name not populating in Plex

Used FileBot to rename Movie MP4 files. Added them to a Library. Scanned the Library. The corrected FileBot file name displays momentarily in the Plex library during the scan but reverts to the original file name. Where is it finding the pre-edited file name and how can I make it keep the corrected file name?

I tried the instruction from the ‘Plex Dance’ article but it did not resolve the issue.

Embedded tags with your MP4-files.

Any idea how to have Plex use the file name and not the embedded tags? These MP4 files were ripped from DVD using DVDFab. Thanks.

get on the server, click on movie,. you will have a dropdown menu in the upper right. Then click “fix match”

I understand I can fix each individual movie file but that defeats the purpose of running FileBot. I want to run FileBot to correct the file names of all my movies and have Plex use the new file name to collect Meta Data.

as per Peter_W’s statement… if the file names are actually ok, this could still be linked to embedded tags being used.
this leaves you with basically 2 options:

  1. remove those tags in the files
  2. tell Plex to ignore embedded meta data / local media assets (via the library and agent settings) – this might not work for you if you actually use local media assets
